Awakened Resilience — Adedayo, author and spiritual poet for spiritual empaths and highly sensitive people
“Come to me, all you who are weary.”
The words of Jesus — Matthew 11:28
You feel everything at once. The room, the noise, the grief, the beauty. It all comes in, and there is nowhere to put it.
You have tried church. You have tried therapy. You have tried the books, and perhaps the medication too. And still, at two in the morning, you are asking the same question: why do I feel this way, and what am I supposed to do about it? Jesus has an answer for you, and it is not “toughen up”.
You are not an accident
However you have been made to feel — dull, weak, strange, weird, mad — none of it is the truth about you.
You have spent your life absorbing the frequencies of the world. Its brokenness, its meanness, its cruelty. You have taken it all in deeply, because that is how you are made. For too long you have been told that this depth is a flaw, a vulnerability, something to be managed or apologised for.
It is none of those things. Sensitivity is not a disorder and it is not a personality quirk. It is a spiritual condition, and it is as old as the first human beings.
What you have never been given is a route. A road, a direction, a way to travel from where you are now to where you are meant to be. That is what this is.
The S.O.F.T. System
Four things that keep spiritually sensitive people stuck — and the order in which to face them.
Self-criticism
The way you have been judging yourself, and where that voice actually came from. This is where you surrender to God’s grace.
Overwhelming senses
Too much emotional and energetic load, coming in all at once, with nowhere to go. This is where you become open to God’s grace.
Feeling misunderstood
The gap between what you carry inside and what the world sees on the outside. This is where you find faith in God’s grace.
Turning inward
Turning in rather than out, and finding the spirit, God’s wisdom and Divine strength waiting there. This is where you live the truth of God’s grace.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9A condition, not a defect
Most writing about sensitivity treats it as a temperament to be worked around, or a gift to be celebrated and left at that. Neither goes deep enough, and neither explains why it hurts.
Sensitivity is part of the human spiritual condition. It began in the garden, with Adam and Eve, at the moment human beings first knew what it was to feel exposed. And the answer to it walked out of a garden too, on the third day. Jesus does not ask you to stop feeling. He asks you to bring what you feel to Him. Even though all human beings are broken, the love of God for each person is not broken — so come just as you are, and remember that eternal love from up above is so high, so wide, so long, so strong.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. Luke 10:27
This work is built on faith. If that is unfamiliar territory for you, you are still welcome here — nothing will be demanded of you that you are not ready for.
“This is what I have been looking for. This is what I am going through. Why has nobody told me this before?”
What I want you to think when you finish reading
Where people usually start
One is a journey you walk with me. The other is a poem written for one person, and one moment.
